Real climate leadership comes from the grassroots up.
On September 8, 350 Australia is helping organise rallies in cities and towns around Australia to demand our local leaders commit to building a fossil free world that puts people and justice before profit. No more stalling, no more delays: it’s time for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy for all.
Climate Action Darwin is just one of the groups that will be rising for climate action and calling for change from local leaders.
Shar Molloy and Pauline Cass from Climate Action Darwin say that they will be rising because the Northern Territory is already experiencing the effects of climate change.
“If climate change keeps accelerating the Top End will become uninhabitable due to extreme heat, catastrophic storms and sea level rise.”
The group will be calling on the Chief Minister and Members of the Northern Territory Parliament to develop a comprehensive climate policy to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and develop climate resilient communities.
“Our Northern Territory must implement a climate policy and do more to reduce our emissions. They need to start supporting renewable energy in the NT and ban onshore shale gas fracking.”
The group will be gathering at Nightcliff Jetty for a march to the lawns near Nightcliff Pool, to hold our local leaders to account and demand that they walk the talk on climate action.
Join them on the lawns after the march for some acoustic music and climate discussions. BYO picnic.
