350.org Australia welcomes findings from Senate inquiry into coal closure

The first ever Parliamentary body to call for a replacement of coal-fired power with renewables is a welcome development in our energy debate, says 350.org Australia.

“This historic report must be a wake up call that the Government’s lack of coherent climate policy is leading to chaos in the energy sector and in communities,” 350.org Campaigns Director, Charlie Wood said.

“The future of energy in Australia is not coal or gas – it is renewables. Our energy market is going through a transition that must be managed to ensure communities are protected and the grid remains stable.

“It is time for the Government to stop ignoring the urgent issue of climate change and actually start taking steps to address it. Working with other parties to implement the recommendations of this report would be a good place to start.”
