350.org Australia releases feature-length climate film

Wednesday, January 30, 2019:  350.org Australia will today premiere a crowdfunded feature-length film – Accelerate – which shows how, when working together, ordinary people can stop fossil fuel projects, push for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy, and ensure not a dollar more goes to dirty energy.

To explain how ordinary people can take action, world-renowned author and environmentalist, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben leads the Accelerate film – with additional voices provided by Australian stars Mia Wasikowska, Rachel Ward, Jack Thompson, Sean Keenan, and Simon Baker.

350.org Australia Acting CEO Glen Klatovsky said, “When Bill McKibben visited Australia in 2018 for the Accelerate Climate Action tour, we filmed him at the world’s biggest coal port at Newcastle, diving at a seriously degraded Great Barrier Reef, at town halls and business lunches around Australia as he explained the gravity of the climate change situation – and what we can do about it.”

“In the wake of the IPCC’s new report demanding drastic action to halt global warming to 1.5°C, all Australians must step up and fight against fossil fuel influence and for a safer, cleaner, greener future.”

The feature-length film is accompanied by the release of a shorter ‘community’ film, which 350.org Australia is making freely available to anyone who wishes to host a screening of the film in their community.

Accelerate director Emma Hudson said, “Accelerate the documentary reinforces the science and factual information we already know. The intention of the film is to remind us all that through active engagement we can change the system to restore a liveable planet.”
