Real climate leadership comes from the grassroots up.

On September 8, 350 Australia is helping organise rallies in cities and towns around Australia to demand our local leaders commit to building a fossil free world that puts people and justice before profit. No more stalling, no more delays: it’s time for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy for all.

350 Perth is just one of the groups that will be rising for climate action and calling for change from local leaders.

Franca Gilissen from 350 Perth says the city will be rising because climate change is happening right now.

“It is a serious and urgent problem, but not everyone realises this. We worry about future generations,” she explains.

“We need to make our leaders realise that action is needed right now and that the people expect their leaders to act responsibly.”

350 Perth will be rallying at Russell Square, in the city centre of Perth. The team are organising music, interesting speakers and likeminded people all committed to a just transition away from fossil fuels to 100% renewable energy for all.

At the rally, the group will be asking local leaders to commit to building a sustainable, future proof city; developing a heatwave protection program for the homeless; and divesting from fossil fuels.

This event will be a launchpad for people who attend to get in touch with their own local councils, to discuss how local leadership can take climate action.
