We know that stories can change minds and create action.

From the BBC’s Blue Planet II and filmmaker Josh Fox’s Gasland to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and the ABC’s War on Waste series, films and programs can transform how we think about our impact on the planet and what we need to do to protect it.

350.org Australia wants to make an Australia-focused film that will empower people to take real climate action.

In the wake of the IPCC’s urgent new report demanding drastic action to halt global warming to 1.5 degrees C, we want to make a film that can show Australians how they can fight for no new fossil fuel projects, push for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy, and ensure not a dollar more to dirty energy.

That’s why we’re taking the message of our recent Accelerate Climate Action tour with 350.org founder Bill McKibben and creating a film for people to share in their communities, to inspire solidarity and empower action.

In April and May this year we followed Bill McKibben’s Australian tour with cameras. We captured him at the world’s biggest coal port at Newcastle, while diving at a seriously degraded Great Barrier Reef, and at town halls and meeting rooms around Australia as he explained the gravity of the climate change situation – and what we can do about it.

We need your help to share this remarkable story with the world.

Right now, we are working with filmmakers to create two films.

The first will be made available to activist and community groups for download, to be shown in community halls, assembly rooms, pub lounges, churches and lounge rooms — any location where people can gather together to plan and organise for climate action. This film will motivate and inspire and, crucially, sustain the climate action momentum during the hardest times of government inaction. The second version of the film will be feature length, and edited for screenings at film festivals and cinemas. This film will reach all new audiences and expose them to Bill McKibben’s crucial call for climate action.

We have the footage, screenwriter, editor and support team to get these films made, but we need your help. We still need funds for:

  • Editing services
  • The composition of a musical score
  • Digital Cinema Package (DCPs)
  • Distribution via film festivals, public events and activist networks
  • Production of tool kits for communities showing the film and planning action.

Your contribution will ensure that the call for climate change action continues to ring through local communities right around Australia, and will help us reach all-new recruits ready to join the climate fight.

By joining this crowdfunding campaign, you will be chipping in to accelerate climate action.
