Using COP26 to pressure the banks on climate

On November 6, communities around the world will take action together to demand climate justice – from our governments, financial institutions, corporations and more during COP26 – the international climate talks.

You can use the global momentum of COP26 to pressure the Australian banks to end fossil fuel financing. NAB and ANZ are both finalising their fossil fuel lending policies right now, and creative actions that put their dirty investments in the spotlight could tip them over the edge.

You can host an action at a NAB or ANZ branch, their head office or any location of your choosing that will make a great photo and reach lots of people.

Can’t find an action near you? Host your own by filling in this form, or join Uni Students for Climate Justice

🖌️ Get crafty for the climate 🎨

You can draw, paint, sculpt, photograph, sew an image that will capture the attention of the banks while all eyes are on them around COP26.

Be as creative as you like and send them through so we can share it to the wider community. You can also share your photos of the art that you have created by tagging 350 Australia in your post and include the hashtag #BankOnOurFuture.

MAKING OUR ACTIONS COVID-SAFE

We need to make sure that we are being as safe as possible with regards to COVID-19. This is about not only protecting the people involved in our actions but also the workers at the banks we target.

Please ensure you chat to a 350 Australia staff member before your action to check your Covid Safety Plan. You can get in touch with us at lavanya@350.org.au.

  1. Remind everyone who RSVPs to your event not to attend if you’re feeling sick or have been to an exposure site. Ensure all correspondence with participants notes that this will be a Covid-safe event and remind people of the precautions below.
  2. Comply with all relevant restrictions in your state, particularly on the amount of people that can gather outside and if participants are required to be fully vaccinated. Currently, restrictions on gatherings, movement and activities are being eased by States and Territories at different times, and in many cases those gathering need to be fully vaccinated. Please refer to the relevant guidelines for VICNSWACTSA WANT  and Queensland.
  3. All action attendees must wear masks. Organisers will have hand sanitiser available, and all participants must practice physical distancing (1.5 metres apart). If anyone is feeling unwell they should not attend the action or immediately return home. If you are handing out flyers to staff, make sure you are sanitising frequently and avoid touching your face.
  4. Everyone attending actions or planning meetings must sign in  to help contact tracing efforts should the event become an exposure site. Create a state-based Covid check-in form online, and print out copies of the QR code for people to scan and complete. Also check in at every bank branch you enter using the bank’s QR code
  5. Don’t hug or shake hands with folks at your action. Even though we might be excited about how well the action or event went, maintain 1.5m space at all times. Opt for air fist bumps or a little dance instead.

😷 Thank you for protesting responsibly 😷
